Regarding meat souvenirs imported by flight luggage and international post/courier

This is very important message about importing livestock products including meat products to Japan.
Presently, animal infectious diseases (e.g.Foot-and-mouth disease/African swine fever) outbreak being reported and threatening all over the world. You cannot bring most of meat products, animal-based products, hence it is difficult to obtain certificates* issued by the government agency of the exporting country when it comes to for souvenir/personal consumption use. Despite souvenir/personal consumption use, you cannot bring livestock products without certificates* issued by the government agency of the exporting country. (*certificates: animal health certificates for animal-based products)
Regardless of heat-processed products, being sold items at airports, snacks/sandwiches including  meat, jerkies and in-flight meals, in any way these are not importable.

Several people have been arrested on suspicion of illegally importing livestock products.
If you bring meat or animal products illegally, you will also be arrested. Violators would be punishable with imprisonment or fine.

*If you bring meat or animal products, you would be punishable with a custodial sentence of up to 3 years or a fine of up to 3 million yen (up to 50 million yen for businesses)

Furthermore, you must not receive them via international post/courier, either as it would be also punishable with imprisonment or fine. Kindly inform your family/friends overseas that they NEVER bring these products/send to you.
