Filling a Vacant Position of Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) for November 2026 - March 2027

This is to announce the recruitment of Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) at elementary schools, junior high schools and compulsory education schools in the City of Tsukuba. 

Period of assignment

From November 1st, 2026 to March 31st, 2027
*If you wish to continue with a contract starting from April 1st 2027, please be sure to apply for the recruitment that will be held later.

Municipal Elementary schools, junior high schools and compulsory education schools in Tsukuba City

The number of new hires

One

Responsibilities

1. Overall assistance in English activities and classes
2. Preparation of teaching materials for English classes
3. Assistance in holding Tsukuba English/Foreign language Presentation Contest/Forum
4. Assistance in conducting English (foreign language) teacher training program
5. Assistance in conducting educational programs on international understanding
6. Assistance in extracurricular activities such as club activities
7. Assistance for children who are from or spent a lot of time in foreign countries
8. Any other work related to the enrichment of English education and the promotion of international understanding

Working hours

Monday through Friday（except Saturday, Sunday, National Holidays and December 29th to January 3rd）

7 hours and 45 minutes per day between 8:00am and 5:15pm (includes 45 minutes break)

8:30am to 5:15pm (including 60 minutes break) in the case of working outside of school such as during school’s summer break.

*You may be required to do overtime work when the school principal deems it to be necessary.

Requirements

The candidate must be work-ready by meeting all of the following conditions

1. Person whose mother tongue is English or who has equivalent ability in English
2. Academic background equivalent to or higher than a bachelor's degree
3. Japanese language proficiency at the level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N4 (Level 3) or higher, with the ability to explain lesson plans in Japanese.
4. Have a valid Japanese driver’s license issued by a prefectural public safety commission at the time of application, and be able to commute within the city by private car from the employment start date.
5. Be able to obtain an appropriate work visa by the hiring date.
6. Have over one year of experience working as an ALT at elementary and junior high schools in Japan.

 Salary

Monthly base salary: 278,400 yen (There will be no bonus paid for this fiscal year.)
*Commuting allowance, regional allowance, and overtime allowance will also be paid.

*Deductions such as income tax, resident tax, health insurance, and national pension will be applied.

Welfare

Health insurance, employees' pension, employment insurance and coverage for accidents in line of duty

Schedule for the examination

• Written and interview exams in Japanese and English will be held in person from late August.
• Online participation, as well as specifying or changing the date and time, are not available.
• The results are scheduled to be notified in mid-September.
• The detailed schedule will be notified to each applicant.

5. 国際理解教育に関する協力
6. 児童及び生徒のクラブ活動等課外活動への協力
7. 外国につながりのある児童及び生徒の支援
8. その他外国語教育の充実及び国際理解の促進のため必要なこと

勤務形態

毎週月曜日から金曜日（土日祝日および12月29日から1月3日までを除く）

午前8時00分から午後5時15分までのうち1日7時間45分（休憩45分）

学校以外での勤務日（学校の休業期間中等）は午前8時30分から午後5時15分まで（休憩1時間）

※学校長が必要と認めた場合は、時間外勤務を命ずることがあります。

応募資格

以下の条件をすべて満たすもの（即戦力採用）とする。

1. 英語を母語とする方又は同等の能力を有すること
2. 大学卒業以上の学力を有すること
3. 日本語能力試験N4（3級）程度若しくはそれ以上の日本語力を有し、授業計画を日本語で説明できること
4. 応募時に日本国（都道府公安委員会）発行の運転免許証を所持し、勤務開始日には自家用車で市内を移動できる状態であること
5. 採用日までに適正な就労査証を保持することが可能であること
6. 日本の小学校かつ中学校でALTとして1年以上の勤務経験があること

 給 与

月額基本給278,400円

※地域手当を含みます。上記のほか、通勤手当、時間外勤務手当が支給されます。所得税、住民税、健康保険、国民年金などの控除が適用されます。
